One way to deal with novels that insist on the "megaseconds, gigaseconds, assloadofseconds" thing (if you're near a web browser) is to use the google calculator. Just enter (e.g.) "5 gigaseconds in years" as a google search (no quotes), and voila: "5 gigaseconds = 158.443823 years" appears above the search results. Karl
